February 2014 "The Look of Love" Ipsy Review

For February, Ipsy brought us an assortment of products to achieve the look of love. My bag came complete with a cleanser to prep my skin, eye shadows to play up my green eyes, and flirty eyelashes to bat at my love. Once again Ipsy delivered an assortment of new brands and products for me to try, all in a convenient pink and leopard print makeup bag.

If you are interested in signing up for your own Ipsy bag, you can do so by clicking here. Each month, Ipsy will send you 5 full or sample size products in a cute fashion forward makeup bag; all for $10USD or $14.95CDN.

J.Cat Beauty Eyelashes in EL13

Value: $3.99
"Cause a ruckus as you bat your voluminous faux eyelashes! Take your pick from 30 styles that you won't be able to resist. Each includes an individual eyelash adhesive for endurance through a night on the town!"

These are the second pair of J.Cat lashes I have received through Ipsy. I gave the first pair to a friend and I might do the same with this pair. My eyelashes naturally look like falsies, so I don't really have a use for these. However, I do have a wedding next week, so I may use these then.

Zoya Professional Lacquer in Dot

Value: $9.00
"Zoya nail polish in Dot can be best described as a full-coverage pink petal cream (originally released as Dot for fashion designer Zang Toi's SS14 Collection.)"

Of the two polishes available this month Dot wasn't my first choice, however, I am always happy to add another nail polish/Zoya to my collection. I found this polish to be somewhat sheer, with two coats being only slightly opaque. This polish is definitely going to be a 3 coater. The colour is very pretty, albeit somewhat boring, it is a very nice work appropriate pink polish.

First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser with Red Clay

Value: $5.11
"Ideal for oily/combination or problem-prone skin, or anyone looking for an extra deep cleanse. Cleanses and detoxifies the skin. Unclogs and minimizes pores. Balances the skin and controls oil production."

I was so happy to receive this sample! I have been seeing/hearing great things about this brand on YouTube. Missglamorazzi raves about this line, so I cant wait to try it. I have been breaking out like crazy lately, and have had excess oil production out the wazoo! Although this cleanser is on the pricier side, if it works wonders I may consider purchasing it.

POP Beauty Plump Pout in Peony Petal

Value: $7.53
"This plumping put perfector combines the high-shine of a lacquered gloss with the long wear of a stain, and is packed full of lip-plumping peptides and avocado & jojoba oils. Lightweight, creamy texture immediately merges with lips and delivers intense glossy colour for an extremely long-lasting finish."

I haven't loved the POP Beauty products I've received from Ipsy in the past, but I am totally digging this gloss! The muted rose colour is perfect for any day and will compliment any makeup look. The product applies smoothly and provides full colour coverage, that lasts all day. I don't get that painful plumping feeling which is nice, but my lips do look fuller. I am not a fan of the scent but it's something I can get over.

Jesse's Girl 9-Pan Palette in The Eyes Have It

Value: $3.99
"Nine coordinating eye shadows in a sleek plastic case."

This is my first experience with Jesse's Girl cosmetics, and I am neither wowed nor a I disappointed. Although this isn't my first choice colour selection wise, it's nice to add some variation to one's collection. The darker colours in this palette were more impressive than the lighter shades for sure. Overall though, the quality of these shadows are lacking compared to other drugstore alternatives. I will use this palette in conjunction with other shadows, however, I cant say I will be grabbing for this consistently over other shadows in my collection.
L: Jesse's Girl Palette - Swatched L-R/ R: POP Lip Plumper

Beauty Blender & Mini Cleanser

Value: ????
"The Beauty Blender is the ultimate makeup sponge applicator that lets you look like a movie star without the pricey services of a makeup artist."

It's hard to put a value on this bonus, but I think it is totally worth 1000 Ipsy points. I could never allow myself to dole out the money or one of these, so it's great to try it out for free. I believe this is a mini blender, but I'm not thinking that will affect the results. I'm going to use this when I use my makeup for the wedding next week, and see what sort of results I get.

Total Bag Value: $29.62 w/o Beauty Blender

Although this isn't the highest value bag, I received 3 full size and 2 deluxe sample products. Again, Ipsy proves why they are the bomb dot com of the beauty box world. All of these products will last a long time and give me enough product to test whether I would really purchase the full size.

December 2013 Ipsy Review

December was so busy, and went by so quickly that I just remembered I had to review my December Ipsy Bag. I don't know how I could have forgotten about this bag, as it is pretty amazing! It came complete with 4 full size products, and a trial size eyeshadow palette, that came with three full size eye shadows. My bag also came with a replacement bronzer from the November bag. Overall, I am super impressed with the contents of Decembers bag, and I was excited to see a variety of products from both brands I love, and brands new to me. The value of this months bag also far exceeded the cost in which I paid. The value of the products came to $59.19. Ipsy continues to impress me and provide me with new and exciting products to try, so I will be staying subscribed into the new year.

If you are interested in signing up for your own Ipsy Bag, you can do so by clicking here. Ipsy costs $10USD or $14.95CDN per month.

Mirabella Eye Blender

Value: $27
"This fluffy eye blender brush perfectly fuses eyeshadow to create a naturally sculpted eye. Tapered domed shape provides flawless and easy application. Mirabella hand sculpted brushes are made with the finest quality materials and feature exclusive brushed aluminium ferrules and handles."

Pop Beauty Naturally Bare Eyeshadow Trio

Value: $7.20
"This palette of bare pigments adds definition and intensity to lids, creating a broad range of shadow looks that complement all eye colours. From light bare to midnight bronze, these hues blend smoothly onto the lid, adding a veil of silky luster that will outlive the day or night!"

Be A Bombshell One Stick in Flustered

Value: $16
"An all-in-one multiple stick with a smooth texture. Apply to eyelids, cheeks or lips for the perfect pop of colour anywhere! Apply as you would regular eyeshadow, blush, or lip gloss."

NYX Extra Creamy Round Lipstick in Hermes

Value: $4
"The mineral-based emollient formula offers a beautiful velvet texture, saturated colour and it resists wear and smudging. It's your go-to lipstick."

NICKA K Nail Polish in Classic Taupe

Value: $4.99
"Our new and improved professional DBP, Toulene and added formaldehyde free lacquer easily glides onto nails for a picture perfect polished finish. Specially formulated to be applied minimal effort while offering smooth, even coverage. Our long wearing, vibrant NICKA K New York Nail colours are available in 44 variations."

NYC New York Color Big Bold Plumping Lip Gloss
"Big Bold Plumping Lip Gloss makes lips look up to 50% fuller with a high gloss shine that lasts up to 4 hours. The ultra-soft, mega applicator gives full and even coverage for beautiful, perfectly plump lips."
Broadway Nails impress Press-On Manicure
"imPRESS Press-On Manicure by Broadway Nails is the revolutionary way to apply polish! Get a salon-perfect manicure in seconds - simply peel off, press on, and you're done (NO glue needed!). There's no drying, a killer shine and a manicure that lasts up to a week! Available at Walmart."

Montagne Jeunesse Clay Spas
"Join the Revolution and start a new weekly skincare regime with the Clay Spas from Montagne Jeunesse. These natural bamboo fabric masks are infused with clay for a cleansing experience that is better, quicker and easier than ever before."

Overall, I am pretty impressed with the contents of this VoxBox. The snacks were super yummy! The nails are purple which is my favorite colour, and I never say no to new cosmetics to try. I am very intrigued by the NYC Mascara and face mask. The gloss isn't in a colour I normally wear, so I may gift it to someone else. Seeing as a didn't pay anything for this box, the value of the contents is pretty good. I cant wait to see what the next box for Canada holds!

November 2013 Ipsy Glam Bag

November's Glam Bag was super special, because we got 6 products instead of the normal 5, we got a full size product from Michelle's new makeup line EM Cosmetics, and for me 5 out of the 6 products were full size! One of my products arrived damaged but IpsyCare should be sending me a replacement soon. I also received a bonus sample for redeeming some of my points.

You can get your own Ipsy Glam Bag for only $10USD/$14.95CDN per month. I think there is still a waiting list right now, but it is worth waiting for. I would love if you would consider using my referral link! Click here to sign up for your own Ipsy Glam Bag!

Pixi Beauty Bronzer in Subtly Suntouched

This product didn't make the trip, unfortunately. I have since emailed Ipsy Care and they are supposed to be sending me a replacement, but it has yet to arrive. This bronzer seems like the perfect shade for my fair skin tone, and I find that it blends quite effortlessly onto the skin. There is finely milled shimmer running throughout this bronzer, and it does swatch with a slight sheen, however, it doesn't look glittery. I wont look like a Twilight vampire in the sunlight. I am going to use this product, regardless that it is broken, and I would consider buying another one when I finish this one.

EM Lash Gallery Clean Volume Mascara

Everyone got a full size product from Michelle's new makeup line, and I really didn't want the mascara, so naturally that's what I received. Although I haven't tried this mascara yet, I'm not overly excited too. I haven't really heard anything good about this mascara, and the brush and formula don't seem like anything special. Once I have used up the few mascaras that I have open currently I will try this out.

Benefit Bad Gal Lash Mascara

This was my add on product for redeeming 1000 Ipsy Points. I am super excited to try this out as I have read some great reviews on it. The size of the brush is huge, and I am hoping I get some great volume, and false lash looks from this mascara.

Nailtini Lacquer in Champagne

This is my second Nailtini Polish from Ipsy. I love the Nailtini formula, so I am happy to receive this product. In the bottle it looks coppery, however on the nail it is a shimmery rose gold. It is a pretty sheer formula, so I needed 2-3 coats for it to look opaque. There is multi-coloured shimmer throughout this polish, that you can see in certain lighting. The finish is streaky, but it isn't a bad streakiness.

Be a Bombshell Lip Crayon in Shameless

Another month, another red lip product. How much red does one girl need?? I don't like this product as much as I liked the Cailyn lip stain from last month. The colour payoff is good initially, but it fades super quick. It is a berry red shade with silver shimmer. It has a glossy finish when you first apply, but it dries to a sticky finish. It is also quite gritty from the glitter. I like that it twists up and you don't have to sharpen it, but I don't think I will be grabbing for this product that much.

Starlooks Gem Pencil in Amethyst

Like the last Starlooks pencil liner I received, this one was very creamy, with excellent pigmentation. It leaves a metallic, almost foiled line. I did find that it has a sticky consistency that has to be set with an eyeshadow or powder. The shimmer lasts all day. I actually find it quite difficult to remove all of the glitter. I probably wont use this as a liner, but as a cream shadow, or base for other shimmer eyeshadows.

BH Cosmetics Galaxy Chic Baked Eyeshadow in Sun

This orange/gold eyeshadow when combined creates a shimmery burnt orange colour. Its not an eyeshadow colour I would normally go for, but it swatches so beautifully that I know I will be grabbing for it, just out of curiosity. There seems to be a theme of shimmer in this bag, as almost every product I received has shimmer in it.
Starlooks, BH Cosmetics, Pixi, Be a Bombshell
Overall, I am happy with the contents of this months bag. Got a few colours out of my comfort zone, and most of the products were full size. I definitely got my monies worth with this bag. I cant wait to see what December's bag will hold.

October 2013 Ipsy Glam Bag

So once again I am late with my monthly Ipsy post. For about 7 weeks, I was working 60ish hours a week, at two jobs and just didn't have time to think, let alone blog. However, now that I am back with more time I am hoping to have both October and November posts up before I get my December bag. Overall, for October I was pretty impressed with the contents of my Ipsy bag. This is my favourite subscription of all the ones I've tried. For the price, $10USD/$14.95CDN, you cant go wrong. You get 5 products every month to try and most months the majority of the products are full size. We definitely get our moneys worth. If you are interested in signing up I would love if you would consider using my referral link! Click here to sign up for your own Ipsy Bag!

LA FRESH Oil Free Makeup Remover Wipes

I am a huge fan of makeup remover wipes, partially because I am super lazy and they make taking of makeup so easy. I was really happy to see that they sent oil free ones because my skin hates products with oil. I have used LA FRESH nail polish remover wipes in the past and wasn't a huge fan, so I am hoping that I will like these ones better. The size of this sample is perfect for travel and gives me enough to try to see if I will like them. I am going to Frankenmuth, Michigan for a mini vacation in December, so these will definitely be coming along with me.

Buxom Full On Lip Polish in Dolly

My first Buxom lip gloss! I've heard great things about these glosses and can't wait to try it out. The colour is definitely me, and I love the subtle gold shimmer that runs throughout it. This is going to look great over a multitude of different lipsticks. I'm going to be testing it over the next few weeks, and I might pick some more up at the Bare Minerals Outlet in Birch Run. Again the size of this sample is huge, almost, if not half the amount of the full size. This will definitely last me a long time.

Big Sexy Hair Blow Dry Volumizing Gel

This product intrigues me, yet scares me at the same time. I just don't know what to expect from it. My hair has a fine texture to it, so I'm worried that it will make it clump together or make my hair greasy. I don't normally blow dry my hair, I don't even own one, so I might bring this on vacation with me to try out with the blow dryer there. If I get miraculous results I will share my findings with you, however, I'm not holding out hope.

Nourish Organic Coconut & Argan Body Lotion

The things I love about this lotion are that: 1. It's the perfect size for my purse. 2. It is readily available at Target, for a reasonable price, and 3. It smells sooo good! I love getting lotion samples like this as I always carry lotion with me. When you are washing and sanitizing your hands many times every shift, your cuticles and hands dry out like crazy. I find this leans a bit more towards an Argan oil smell then coconut but it is still very nice. It absorbs well into the skin, and I wasn't left with any weird residue one my skin.

Zoya Professional Lacquer in Giovanna

Not the best picture of this polish, however, I don't think my camera could ever capture the beautifulness of this polish. Giovanna is a jewel toned, shimmery, metallic finish emerald polish that is perfect for the Christmas season. I was excited to see this colour as I have nothing like it in my collection, and it is part of Zoya's most recent collection. It is nice to see this seasons collections in our sub bags, and not just old collection polishes. The formula was really easy to work with, and was opaque in 2 coats. The only thing I don't like about this polish is the brush, I just prefer a bigger brush with my polishes.

August 2013 Bondi Box Review

Hey girls! Today's post is going to be a review of what I received in my August Bondi Box. Bondi is a brand new subscription box, that gives you 3 full size nail polishes and a beauty extra for $19.99 per month.(Mine with exchange rate came to $21.23) Also, subscribers receive a 25% off code every month to use towards purchases of their other polishes. If you would like a whole breakdown of what to expect with Bondi, please see my brand review here.

If you would like to sign up for your own Bondi Box, you can do so by visiting their website www.bondinewyork.com. Also, don't forget to check out their Facebook page.
In August subscribers received 1 of 8 different Mystery Boxes, that contained polishes from their current debut collection. Subscribers could also purchase additional boxes for $15 each, in order to build up their own collection of Bondi polishes. If you ordered extra boxes Bondi made sure that you did not receive duplicates. Because I received my August Box for free, in exchange for a review, I wasn't eligible to receive the extra boxes at a discounted rate.

In my box I got NYPD, Fuschia-istic, and Brick Road, and my beauty extra was a Suki To Go sampler kit.

NYPD

Is a true blue polish. It is opaque in one coat, however I like to use two coats in order to get the true colour. It dries to a glossy finish on its own, with no streaking. I love blue polishes so I was really excited to see this colour in my box. It is going to be perfect for anytime of the year, as it is bright but not too bright. I cant wait to do some nail art using this colour. I think the first thing I am going to try is stamping with it. I can see myself wearing this a lot.

Fuschia-istic

Is a bright fuchsia pink that is perfect for summer. I found this polish semi-opaque in one coat. I definitely needed two coats for full opacity, and true to bottle colour. As soon as I saw this colour I knew I needed to do a pedicure with it. It is so bright and beautiful, and I smile every time I look at my toes. There was minimal streaking and quick drying times for this polish as well.

Brick Road

Is a golden yellow. I love the name of this polish as it is from the Wizard of Oz, which is my favourite movie, however, I don't really love this colour. Don't get me wrong it is a beautiful colour in the bottle, and I could stare at it all day, but with my skin tone yellow polish never looks good on me. I traded this polish with a fellow Bondi lover for Uptown Girl. This is a purple polish, and I will add a swatch when I receive it.
My bonus item was a sample kit of Suki To Go products. This sample came at the perfect time as I am going away this weekend and need some sample size products. Compared to what some other girls got I am kinda underwhelmed with this product. I like that in September we will all be receiving the same beauty gift.

Overall, I am extremely impressed with the Bondi nail polishes and customer service so far! The quality of these polishes are amazing and I would definitely recommend them. Right now they have 10 polishes on sale for $8 so hop on over and check them out. I purchased Blue Skies and The Limelight.

**September Spoilers**

  • This box will be supporting a specific charitable cause and be co-branded.
  • Subscribers will be able to pick 3 colours from the Fall Collection.
  • Everyone will get the same beauty gift in their box.
  • The box will be tied into a bigger transformation of the Bondi brand, supporting this charitable organization throughout the month of September with contests, etc.

Disclaimer: I received this box as a PR sample in exchange for a review. I am not being compensated for this review. My opinions are 100% honest and my own and are no way influenced because I received this box for free.

New Nail-Mail Subscription Box! Bondi New York!

Hey girls! First I want to say sorry for the long hiatus. I took July off to finish up my online course, spend some time with family and friends, and to celebrate my birthday. I have been missing blogging so much, so thought I would come back with a really exciting review. Today I am going to be reviewing the newest monthly subscription service to hit the scene. It's a nail mail box by the company Bondi New York, and based on what I've read and seen it is going to be a huge success. Lets start with a bit of information about the company itself.

About Bondi

This brand new nail polish company was launched in 2013 with a collection of 20 fashion forward colours that are 5 free. What is 5 free you ask? These polishes are free of 5 harmful chemicals that are found in most other nail polishes: formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, camphor, toluene, and DBP.

This company is based out of New York City and is all American made. All of their net profits (after costs) go to their non-profit foundation, which supports a wide variety of charitable causes throughout the United States.

About Bondi's Subscription Box

Bondi's Subscription box will launch in August 2012. The doors are already open for sign ups. All you have to do is sign up on their website http://www.bondinewyork.com/ with your name and email and you will be sent a link to access the subscription page.

What you can expect every month

Every month your subscription box will include:
  • 3 full size polishes that have a retail value of $37.50
  • A deluxe beauty gift
  • An opportunity to win one of a number of $500 gift cards they are placing in random boxes
  • A 25% discount on polish purchases from the website (This will drop the sale price from $12.50 a polish to $9.38)
  • Free shipping (even for Canadians! It's great to finally see a company offer their service to us without ridiculous shipping and duty charges added on)

What you can expect within the first 3 months

August's box will contain their current collection of polishes. Subscribers will get 1 of 8 different colour variations. If you would like to sign up for more then 1 box in August, just shoot them a quick email. Customer service will make sure that you don't receive 2 of the same box.

September's box will be a preview of their upcoming Fall Collection. I've seen a few swatches on their Facebook Page of what I am assuming is the Fall Collection and they look gorgeous! Bondi also had a naming competition and 5 lucky ladies won a free box for having the most popular names.

October will be the first month that they send subscriber's only polishes. These polishes will only be available in the subscription boxes and not for regular sale on the website. This is a great marketing tactic by them to get and keep subscribers. The words "limited edition", "special collection", and "members only" before the word polish really suck beauty enthusiasts in. They will make a killing off these subscription boxes.
Sneak Peak of the Fall Collection. Polish names on Right from T-B: The 7 Train; My Ex's Heart; Police Box; Meadow Moss; West Point Waters

When to sign up & When the box ships

You can subscribe from the 15th on in order to receive the following month's box. For example: to receive September's box you can sign up starting August 15th. Subscriptions are recurring so there is no need to mark your calendars to make sure you sign up in time.

Boxes ship each month on the 1st. If that day happens to be a weekend or holiday then they will ship out the next business day. I really like that they are shipping at the beginning of the month. It will take longer to reach me in Canada, and I want to receive the box in the month it is intended so that I can review it in that month as well.

Subscription Plan Options

There are four subscription plan options for us to choose from.
  1. Month to Month = $19.99/month
  2. 3 Month Plan = $49.97 or $16.66/month (with this option you save $10)
  3. 6 Month Plan = $99.95 or $16.66/month (with this option you save $19.99)
  4. 12 Month Plan = $199.90 or $16.66/month (with this option you save $39.98)
With all 4 plans above you will have the option to skip months where you don't like the colour selection. The long term plans will automatically renew after you have successfully receive all the months paid for.
The Bondi Team

Skipping a month

Starting with September's box you will be able to preview the colours in the box and if they do not interest you then you can choose to skip. Previews for the box will go out 7-10 days before the shipping date, to allow customers the opportunity to let Bondi know if they would like to skip that month or cancel, if they don't wish to continue receiving the box.

Bondi is currently working on integrating the Subscription Box into regular accounts. This should be done by mid-September, at that time to skip you will just have to hit the Skip button. In the mean time to skip you can chat with a Rep on their website 24hours a day. You can call 1-888-548-2290 or email hello@bondinewyork.com and a customer service rep will take care of it for you.
Bondi posted this pic on Facebook showing the beginning stages of their Account system.

How is Bondi's Customer Service?

So far my experience with Bondi has been through the roof. Someone is always available to chat on their website. They always answer questions quickly and thoroughly. When you email them you can expect an email back within 24 hours and most of the time it is from the Founder himself, Richard Annington. You can ask a million questions and they answer them all with enthusiasm and a smile. Their customer service is a big reason why I am signing up for this service.
Bondi Founder Richard Annington

A sneak peak of September's Box

While emailing back and forth with Richard he gave me a little spoiler for September's box, and I thought I would share it with all of you!

"September's box will have a twist. We are partnering with a charitable organization to raise awareness of a national issue here in the U.S. It is going to be "sexy cause" marketing, not "begging and making you feel bad with every stroke of the polish brush" marketing."

I for one an very excited about this subscription box and hope that it doesn't disappoint me like Julep did. I will be reviewing August's box thanks to Bondi, and then I will be signing up on a month to month basis starting in September.

What do you think the charitable organization is going to be? What are your thoughts on this Subscription Box? Will you be signing up? Leave me your thoughts in the comments below.

June 2013 Ipsy Glam Bag

So, I finally got on the Ipsy bandwagon! A while back I thought of joining, but the bags weren't that good so I kept waiting. Since January every bag has been amazing, and when I saw that this month everyone would be getting a full size NYX blush, I finally caved and subscribed.

Ipsy sends out better brands, and sample sizes compared to other boxes. Plus, they send a higher percentage of makeup compared to their competition, something that I really like. I had signed up for boxes like Glymm and Glossybox hoping to get makeup and ended up being disappointed because I received more skin and hair care products.

Overall, I am super impressed with Ipsy and will continue to be a subscriber for the next few months, at least, to test out their service. If you are interested in signing up for Ipsy I would love if you would use my referral link! By using my link it will make me eligible for a free gift, while supplies last.

Starlooks Lip Liner in Tipsy

I am so excited that I received this colour. It is the perfect colour for Summer. I am really surprised by the pigmentation and formula of this product. The swatch was just two swipes of the lip liner, two very light swipes. This pencil is very creamy and pigmented. I think this alone with some gloss will produce the perfect coral lip.

NYX Cream Blush in Natural

At first I was kind of disappointed by this blush. I'm not the biggest fan of cream blushes(because I don't know how to apply them), and the colour in the pan looks kind of boring. When swatched however, this blush is beautiful! The texture is very glossy and reminds more of a lip product than cheek product, but it blends out perfectly. It will give me a natural flush.

Cailyn Gel Liner in Iron

I am sooooo excited for this liner! My favourite kind of liner is a gel or cream formula, and lately I have been loving grey liner. This gunmetal grey liner will define my lash line, but it wont be as harsh as black liner can sometimes look. I cannot wait to try this out!

 J.Cat Eyelashes

This is the product I like the least in this bag. My lashes naturally look like fake lashes, so I have no use for these. I will most likely give these away to a friend.

J.Cat Sparkling Cream Palette

This isn't a product I will use on a daily basis, especially seeing as it is not safe for use on or around the eyes. It reminds me of the cream glitter eye shadows I reviewed from BA Star a few months ago. The colours in this palette are really nice, and for me they swatched nicely with only a little bit of product. I have read that some other girls have had trouble getting good swatches. Seeing as these can only be used as body glitter, I will have to save this for Halloween, or it may just go into the garbage...I haven't decided yet.

For $15 I was more than happy with the value of the products I received. I give this bag a 3.5/5 because I really don't have much use for the lashes or glitter palette.

What did you receive in your Glam Bag this month? Were you happy with the product selection?
